Stay away from this area of Meridian this morning. An active shooter and a house fire put over fifty officers and firefighters on the scene.

The chaos started last night at about 10:30 p.m. when police received a call about a prowler in the area of Linder and Amity roads.

A woman who called 911 said someone was pounding on her door trying to get in.

When cops arrived on scene a man came out of the house with a rifle which he refused to drop so officers shot at him and he went back inside the home. The woman who initially called 911 said she was inside with two people and she did not know the man with the rifle.

A couple minutes later the home was fully engulfed in flames. Two people made it out but unfortunately the elderly woman did not. It's unclear if the gunman made it out of the burning home or not, but the two other people did not escape without injury. They were both taken to the hospital and one of them has been flown to the Salt Lake City Burn Center.

Police were even pushing the media away last night because they said the situation wasn't safe for anybody and according to KTVB, firefighters were trying to push the flames away from several large fuel tanks.

We'll keep you posted as this story continues to unfold. As of now Amity Road is blocked between Ten Mile and Meridian Road and several roads are closed around Linder and Amity.
